Give Me Childlike Faith

I was in a good bit of pain late last night. All I had to do was call, and my almost 16 year old hurried to me. He did what he’s done so many times before. He laid his hands on me and prayed believing God would change things. He always prays with such heartfelt sincerity and childlike faith.

He’s been my little prayer warrior since at least the age of seven. I’ll never forget something he told me back then:
“Daddy, I’ve got two superpowers love and prayer. The devil can’t stop either one of them.”

This picture was taken several years ago as he prayed by my side. Even now, at nearly 6’5” and 220 pounds, his heart hasn’t changed. I’ve seen and experienced the miracles God has done through his simple yet powerful, faith-driven prayers. There’s hardly a week that goes by that I don’t rely on that boy’s prayers.

Parents, we must teach our children the power of God’s love and the power of prayer. The devil can’t stop either one. Through Christ, those two things bring hope no matter the situation. By the way, not long after my son prayed, I slept like a baby.

When we get on our knees and surrender everything to God in prayer, we find a peace this world can’t give. We also tap into a power source that makes all things possible. Sometimes God uses our children to remind us what it looks like to trust Him completely with true childlike faith.

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”
Matthew 19:26 (NIV)

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Mark 11:24 (NIV)

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
James 5:16 (NIV)
