Dear Lonely, Grieving And Confused

Grieving

I can’t say I know how you feel. But, I’ve looked in enough of your eyes to see the magnitude of your pain. My heart sincerely aches for those who are missing loved ones dearly this holiday season. I truly don’t think there is anything harder than feeling alone or abandoned.

Maybe the love of your life is no longer near. Maybe your kids aren’t coming home for Christmas. Maybe you just feel everyone else is celebrating and nobody cares about you. The bottom line is you feel lonely and your heart is hurting. I would love to offer some words of promise that can only be found in Jesus.

First of all, you are loved. You are so loved that God sent His only son Jesus down from Heaven. You are so loved that Jesus was willing to die for you on a cross because He hopes to never live without you. This love can’t be measured or denied.

Secondly, peace can be found. Jesus came to give you peace this world simply can’t deliver. There is not anything or anyone that can deliver such lasting peace. But, Jesus promises peace no matter what’s going on in your life. Cling to the peace of knowing that Jesus will hold you together and settle your aching heart.

Thirdly, God has not abandoned you. Baby Jesus was Emmanuel which means “God with us.” For all who choose to believe in Jesus we have the presence of God “the Holy Spirit” always living within us. We are never abandoned, alone or forsaken. Know that God is with you and He is especially close to the broken-hearted.

Fourthly, Jesus Still has a purpose for your life. No matter how things change our purpose remains the same. God has us here “to know Jesus and to make Jesus known.” While seasons may change God is not done with you. If He woke you up this morning then God still has a plan and purpose for your life.

Finally, my friend there is hope! Jesus offers us never changing hope in an ever changing world. Hope that we can overcome any situation through Him. Hope that is not dependent upon any situation. To believe in Jesus is to know hope is certain both now and forever more. I pray you know the certainty of that hope today.

“I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.”
1 John 5:13

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
Hebrews 6:19
